Britain’s got talent. And with talent I don’t just mean singing housewifes, but they’ve got some lads with talent in their fingers as well! Today another one who’s been doing this for quite a while: Riot68, an ace of all trades. Not only has he got sick characters, he also has an amazing abstract letter style and is responsible for a small army of custom designer toys as well. Enjoy this spam wth Riot68!
Where are you from, and where are you going?
From Nottinghamshire, Robin Hood County, in England. And now we’ve just sold our house, who knows? Probably just around the corner. (update, took so long to write this that I have moved and it is just around the corner).
Do you prefer to do your work in the peaceful environment of the studio, or out on bricks on the lookout for police?
Studio out of the two, however I most like to be out painting one of my legal spots, chilling out and getting creative with friends.
What is your favorite item to take on the road with you?
Gotta fill that suitcase with gadgets, camera, laptop, phone. If I had to narrow it down to just one I’d have to say my wife, although now I have a son too so maybe gadgets, oh and always have to have some slaps on me.
Best street art spot we should check out:
Tough to say, I kind of concentrate on scoring my own spots and places to paint, maybe everyone should look to the streets.
Who or what inspires you?
Always get asked this and I never know what to say, everything around me, the kids I work with, my family. I think one of the most inspirational times was my childhood, growing in up in 80’s England was just full of Action figures, stickers, Lego, robots, monsters and zombies. I think I still live in that world.
How much does art influence your everyday life?
Art for me is part of everyday life, it’s in practically everything I do, and I don’t have a home life and work life just life itself, so I’d have to say its influence is great.
Is there any specific goal you’ve set for yourself, something you want to have done before you’re old?
Already getting old and so much to do, a lot of goals have been reached, I have a beautiful wife and son, we’re all well and happy and I run my own business. I would rather like to buy an old sports car and restore it so maybe I should get on to that soon.
Is there any artwork you consider your best?
It’s so tough to really like your own work, I am happy with most of my more recent stuff, think I need to get some more 3d pieces in and I’ll be getting there.
Which artist would you like to work with in the future?
Oh man, so many people, lot’s of graff writers for sure, not too fussed who they are I just like to paint with likeminded people who can get on, have a laugh and work together to create one big piece of amazing artwork.
What is your favorite movie/gaming/cartoon character?
If you put me on the spot to say just one, the first thing that comes to mind is Jason Voorhees, although when I sit and think some more there are so many so we’ll leave it at Jase for now.
What is your favorite music/genre/artist/album?
Punk rock all the way, narrowing down a single artist or an album would be way too hard there are so many, been listening to a lot of Sonic Boom Six at the moment it changes all the time.
If you could fill a swimming pool with something, what would it be?
Water, isn’t that what they’re for?
Favorite city, and coolest thing about it?
So far I would have to say Hong Kong, total diversity, ancient and modern, fast and slow, peaceful and noisy all in its own microcosm. Oh and lot’s of gadgets too.
Bill (PC) or Steve (MAC)?
PC, I’m tight and they’re a 3rd of the price.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I’ve been concentrating a lot more on my graff recently so while the weather permits a lot more walls, hopeful some nice productions with people I’m planning on working with, and hopefully if time permits a lot more canvas work, may still even get some more custom toys done.
