Chris Tubbs – Out of Doors

Chris Tubbs – Out of Doors

By Kaymir Stark

After ten years of travelling around the world, this dedicated photographer, has built up this fantastic archive of 400-500 images from 40 countries. A lot of these are also in countries where basketball is not the most popular sport, and soon the board almost becomes secondary to the landscape. This small article can't really do any justice to his vast collection of hoops from around the globe.

"At first, it started as a single image in Cuba and then, as I travelled further, I started noticing these boards everywhere. From that point they appeared in the most unlikely settings wherever I went; from Bhutan in the Himalayas, European countries to the US and beyond."

"The point was also to work on a project that was not about resources but perseverance and time and the series has since been attracting a lot of interest."

"What struck me though, was that they were mostly unused and abandonned, but obviously at some stage someone had gone to the effort to put them up... For me, it is this sense of loss. The remains of a time when children played there, a reminder of lost youth perhaps."

"All the images are shot on film and medium format. You can follow the project on my instagram. I am looking for partners to take this project forward and produce a photographic book and archive."
