Home reviews expositions X marks the spot!

xstreets_expo

Recently, the Xstreets collective showed their work in a day full activities. With an Umbrella roadshow, an exhibition at the Chiellerie and an after party in the 301, the boys and girls from Xstreet showed they had more to offer that day then just free beer. Did you say free beer? Yes free beer, so CFYE was at the scene to make a few snapshots and have a chat with the collective!

For those who don't know, the Xstreets collective is a (street) art collective that has been responsible for spawning some of flyest creatures roaming these streets, like the world famous BUSHITS. With a colorful member base hailing from the UK, Swiss and the Netherlands their work varies from Umbrella Art (short UmbrellArt) 'till stencils, stickers, paste-ups and whole installations.

Xstreet Members: IVES.one (NL), BUSTart (CH), MLSS (NL), Karma (UK), Oei! (NL), Zaira (CH), Fons (NL), Skate (UK) and Robe (NL).

Unfortunately, we weren't present at the Umbrellart roadshow. At this show organized by Xstreets, participants walked the city like an urban catwalk; showing of their umbrella €™s made by artists like Zimad, Laser 3.14, Merel Boers, Mr.Wany, Moama, WZL, and Ives.One. The roadshow started at Nieuwmarkt and ended in the Chiellerie, Amsterdam.

At the Chiellerie, the collective had been busy all day to get the exhibition ready, and that showed! The works and installations looked great and it seemed like they 've been working on the exhibition for days.

Xstreets made more out of the exposition than a few pieces of art and free beer. The European umbrella distributer Impliva rewarded the artist with the greatest UmbrellArt with a one-time production of his design, prices could be won with raffle tickets and models worked around in clothing of Ill_design. Besides that, the whole collective rocked TruusTrendy gear who is their clothing sponsor so I believe we can also expect an Xstreets/TruusTrendy collaboration soon (Here ya go IVES).

But wait! 'just' a road show and an exhibition apparently wasn't enough for the collective. There needed to be more! And so there was an after party @ the OT301, and better yet, CFYE was on the guest list (besides that, the Chiellerie changed their beer policy and decided to charge, so it was time to leave anyway).

Afterparty

After a quick pitstop at the Burger Bar (Best burgers in Amsterdam!), we hopped on our Vette Shit limousines and made our way to the 301 @ the Overtoom to get our party on. First thing to be noticed when entering the place: The decoration was, again, banging! Besides umbrella's and canvasses there was a wall dedicated to live paint. DJ 4Way and DJ Koldun spinned the tunes top keep the crowd moving and the Swiss based MC 's Die Schallplattenpolizei put down a nice show. After that the mic went over to DRT and his hypeman for some social/political tinted lyrics.

There was more going down at the after party but the ride home promised to be long and wet, so it was time for CFYE to retire. It was a well organized night and Xstreets gave us a great presentation about why X marks the spot.

Special thanks to Ives.one, MLSS and BUSTART!
