Home interviews other Sweet Station - the way to candyland

forcfye1

We're still looking for the exact location of candy land, but the tracks to there must be starting at Sweet Station. At Sweet Station.com you will be led to all the possible eye candy you can imagine. Responsible for all this goodness is the amazing Honey. In between being an art junkie and the rest of life she finds the time to provide us with the goods (not in the last place because she needs her daily art fix herself). Now we agreed that crack+candy is twice as addictive and joined forces! Coming time Honey will contribute to CFYE with write ups on interesting works of art, from contemporary to graffiti, and of course we advice you to visit sweet-station on a regular basis. But first, a proper introduction.

"Work hard, have fun and the rewards will come."

So let's start at the beginning, have you always been such a creative mind?

I have always been creative in some way for as long as I can remember. My brain is built that way. At a young age, I was painting, drawing, and winning prizes for my art. I was writing plays and skits and acting in them. I love creating and learning new things because it makes life more fun and much more interesting and besides, my mind becomes restless if I'm not growing.

Are you a cat or a dog person?

Had both growing up but I'm definitely a dog person. All cats do is stare at traffic, yawn, and lick themselves. purrrr..

What kind of creative activities do you do yourself? (knitting, photography, etc.)

I ran an art blog called Sweet Station where me and my brother feature all sorts of art and artists from all over the world. It keeps me fueled with inspiration finding all these interesting works on the web. I also do photography for fun in my spare time.

Where did the urge to start an art blog come from?

I was unable to sleep. I get about 3 hours of REM every night at the time. Bored by tossing and turning, I found solace online. I traverse from one art gallery on the web to the next, and before you realize it, got myself a blog.

What makes you put other people in the spotlight instead of yourself?

I've got a healthy ego, which is one thing I've got going for me, I guess.

Is there something particular that makes Sweet Station so rewarding?

What is so rewarding about this whole thing is coming into contact with so many different people - many have words of encouragement and appreciation. It really meant a lot to me. Internet is a big place so to be completely truthful, I'm just happy that people visit the site at all.

There's so much stuff out there on the net, how do you keep up with it all?

I blog what I want who I want when I want otherwise, I will be institutionalized.

What is the qualification to get your work on Sweet Station?

I'm awed by and supportive of artists and designers who are taking risks and coming up with original concepts. Works that are not just visually arresting, but also frequently intellectually contesting. Pretty much anything that will get my eyes fixed on their work, unblinking, will be posted up there for sure.

Do you have any artists that are your favorites?

I love Esther Stocker, Ron Mueck, Maya Hayuk, and Sam3 - a street artist from Madrid. He did many simple but wonderfully striking images that you carry in your mind long after you have seen them. I also happen to love Christo. They are known for wrapping the Reichstag in Berlin with more than a bizillion square feet of fabric. They did The Running Fence in California, Surrounded Islands in Florida, The Gates in New York City's Central Park and many more. These projects takes many many years to complete. The Gates took 26 years from conception to completion at a cost to the artists of $21 million. They have no life other than their projects. And. I. love. it. It's an anomalous and wonderful feeling when you discover an artist whose heart and brain are very much in synch with your own.

Could you tell us a bit about Pinkstew and the idea behind it?

Pinkstew is an art zine that I'm currently putting together. It will be used to showcase any or all of the following: paintings, mixed-media pieces, street art, photography, illustrations, graphic design, comics, and graffiti. It's a hodgepodge of goodness! I am extremely excited about it and can't wait to get it published. We are still accepting submissions so if you are thinking of contributing, please go to this link and email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If Sweet Station was a candy, what kind of candy would it be?

It would be a candy made out of buttery and meltingly rich milk chocolate with Ferrero Rocher filling in the middle, frosted with Lindt vanilla truffles and creamy peanut butter glazed with chocolate hazelnut sauce finished with white chocolate scribbles. I think my head just exploded.

If money would not be a factor, what would you do if you could go crazy with Sweet Station?

Anything's possible when it's your show so if we have money Sweet Station would be a big organization helping people in crisis regions. With the profits we make, we will build houses, schools, and hospitals. That's the ultimate dream, really. There's no feeling quite like waking up every morning knowing you're going to spend your day making a difference in people's lives. And no, I'm not on crack.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Work hard, have fun and the rewards will come.
