At the Paint & Beer event in Amsterdam last week, we had the honor to meet up with the talented Martin Squires from London. Besides the fact he's a great fella, we were intrigued by his works existing out of oil paint, ink, spray paint or a combination of. Not limiting himself, he can get along with all kinds of mediums. Martin was kind enough to lend us two of his artworks, which will be on display for a month in Canvas, Amsterdam! (more details on that later on). Seeing I was quite hammered at Paint & Beer, we thought we'd leave the Q&A for the e-mails.
David Richardson lives in a 'behind the scenes' adventure. Music gigs, artists, late night parties, beautiful women, (drunken) friends and drunken crowds are some of the subjects found in this London based photographer's work. His pictures are somehow realer then life. Maybe that's because of the film grain, maybe it's because of the moments he chooses. I don't know, but whatever it is, it keeps us coming back to his photos time and time again!
One of the perks of CFYE is getting in contact with all this raw talent from across the globe. The talent we feature today has been doing his things since the 80's and became a household name in the UK graff scene: Trans1. Trans1 is known for his amazing photo-realistic skills in black and white. He definitely is amongst my favorite artists and it was about time we showcased some of his works here!
Britain's got talent. And with talent I don't just mean singing housewifes, but they've got some lads with talent in their fingers as well! Today another one who's been doing this for quite a while: Riot68, an ace of all trades. Not only has he got sick characters, he also has an amazing abstract letter style and is responsible for a small army of custom designer toys as well. Enjoy this spam wth Riot68!
With some artist you just know painting is what keeps them sane, and I bet this goes for Bam-Boo as well. With some crazy painting and portraits skill, this young UK-based talent looks forward to every day he's able to paint. With a love for hiphop and much respect to the master and all the talend around he progresses day by day. With the talent he already has it's clear that we're dealing with a future legend if he keeps on going strong like this. Time for the spam!
There's been a flood in the UK lately, loads of places got hit by a massive amount of the infamous pink stickers. There are several sources distributing CFYE in the UK, but there might be one who is the most notable: Nine-O. We have yet to meet the good man, but reliable sources tell us there are not many more people who are so enthusiastic when talking about street art/graffiti. Not only an artist himself, but a big fan as well, he became CFYE ambassador in the UK in no time. Not only that, he also blogs on crackforyoureyes.com every once in a while. More then enough reason to give him a proper introduction!
The UK scene is amazing right now, there's so much talent coming from there..it's mindblowing. Also, in some areas like Bristol, the general attitude towards street art seemed to have shifted and people start to appreciate it a lot more. Things like the Banksy expo in the Bristol Museum and events like Upfest seemed to be the turning point. Of course this wouldn't have been possible without the massive amount of talented artists rising up in the UK scene right now. And even though there is such a huge number of artists coming out from the UK, there are always those who stand out. Snik is one of those people who do, and is destined to do great things with his painting skills! Not too long ago he painted the Royal Albert Hall as part of the wonderland collective, and a little while after that an amazing job at the Armani Exchange store in London. About time we'd send the good man some questions, and luckily he even found the time to answer.
Jeremy Gibbs aka Romanywg is one of those people that his all over the place. In the punk era he started carrying a camera (busy on making a book on that) went on to be a film director, made custom vinyl toys and nowadays he has found his home in the urbex and street art scene. I think the only possible question can be: why didn't we interview him before?
Some people catch your eyes quicker than others. I can not recall when I first heard about the in Ireland born Finbarr Notte (aka Finbarr DAC). It was probably via the infamous photo community site called Flickr, where almost every self respected urban artist is exhibiting his/her work. I do, however, remember when I first saw the man at work. It was at the Wonderland Collective show at London's Light Bar earlier this year. I guess I can say that I was more than a bit impressed by his way of working and the final result. So, a good reason to expose Mr Finbarr Notte on CFYE.
With some artists it just takes a single look at their work to know you're dealing with something very special. This was exaclty the case when we came across Dan Kitchener's work. Dan Kitchener is a (street) artist/illustrator/animator from the UK who is all over the place, from commercial 2d/3d animation on television to canvas and the streets. In between all those things he still knows (needs) to find the time to squeeze in a daily speed painting session, so there's a new treat on his Flickr account every single day! Drawing is Dan's way to stay sane, and every aspect of his work shows his love of drawing. That's why we are very proud to present you a CFYE feature with Dan Kitchener!
